3 Steps to get unstuck & decide when you’re too tired.

My eyes are stuck together, my alarm has been going off for far too long and I just don’t want to move.  I can hear the rain outside my window calling me back to sleep.  I DON”T want to get up.  I do mental gymnastics as I debate whether to ignore my little voice saying go back to bed or give in.  My anxiety growing as I feel the clock ticking and my inability to decide means I might run out of time.

I know that I SHOULD get up and work out.  But, I’m tired.

Have you ever had a moment like this?  Stuck between what you feel like doing and what you know you should do?

Here are 3 Steps to get unstuck and decide

  1. Scan your body and gather information.

    • Are you genuinely tired?

    • Is it the week before your cycle?  (Grief, peri-menopause etc)

    • What kind of energy do you need for your day?

  2. Decide

    • With the information you have decide and take action

  3. Reflect

    • Was your choice a match for what you needed?  You don’t learn from thinking, you learn from doing.  Recognizing your different sensations in your body and emotions and how to find a match for your day. If you were wrong…great! Now you can tune into what would work next time.

So what does that look like?

  1. My back is really sore.  I am in pain.  I need to move, but slow and steady.  A 15 minute guided stretch where I can stay in my jammies seems a match for my energy.  It is the week before my period which means I’m tired and feeling like I need cozy support around me. I have a smaller group presentation in a women’s leadership group which means I don’t need stage energy for hundreds.

  2. I choose to stretch and see if I find more energy.  I DON”T, so I grab a good book.  SPEAK by Tunde Oyeneyin and cozy up in bed with a cup of coffee for the next 45 minutes.  I take a long hot shower and get ready with care.  I snuggle each of my kids.  I move through my morning with sweetness and care.

  3. As I sit at the coffee shop with one of my favorite drinks: Almond milk match with a heart on top,  I check in.  I made the right choice.  I have a calm energy to begin my day.

This time I nailed it.  For now that’s a win.
