goal & resolution flop
There is such hope, excitement & possibility in a new year. So many of us have grand plans and lofty goals. I recently learned that January 17th is the day that most people have already let go of their New Year’s resolution. How can we go from such extreme excitement and motivation to done and over it so quickly?
My resolutions used to be something like this. Tomorrow I will be vegan, who only shops local, I will make all my own food from scratch, while including my children blissfully, and finding time to grow my business and have amazing fantastic sex with my partner AND have time for friends, while leading the PTA, putting fresh food in my community schools, adopting all the children in the world, finish a book, finish my cup of coffee in one sitting, plan a vacation for the near future without my kids, let go of the relationships that aren’t really serving me AND AND AND AND. I feel like that is really only the beginning of the list. You can also guess how quickly this all went out the window. Instead of blaming the flawed goals and expectations I would enter a beautiful guilt, shame, bully cycle where it was because I was a flawed human being and all around unmotivated pile of garbage. This is all just in the first day of the New Year!
As we step into the new year I invite you to join me on a modified path of goal setting and resolutions. I mean if the above is working for you then great! Go that way.
This is more like deciding what this season will be for you and being intentional about stepping into it. It is not about restrictions or crazy expectations. It is also not set into stone once you decide. You can be all in one week and ease up the next. This is about commitment to your vision for 2021 and stepping each day towards it with whatever intensity you have available that day.
I will provide 5 days of setting up your goals and resolutions for success. I will post them every few days and you can do it when you have a chance. The only requirement is that you do them in order. No skipping around or to the final step.
January 9th I will do my live yoga, movement + mindfulness class and there will be a bonus goal setting/ new years resolution guided session after if you would like some guidance.
